The North Pender Local Trust Committee rescinded its standing resolution on short-term vacation rentals, allowing applications to be considered individually under the committee’s guidelines. The committee also decided not to opt in to provincial regulations this year. [1]
Island Planner Brad Smith told the committee that opting in would eliminate temporary use permits and impose a principal-residence requirement. Trustee Aaron Campbell said discussions with bylaw staff indicated opting in would not reduce their workload, and that existing permits would be negated. [1]
The committee then approved a three-year renewal for one short-term rental permit. The permit allows up to 90 rental days per year and 11 guests; the minutes note both exceed Official Community Plan guidelines. [1]
For a separate permit application, trustees asked staff to add a condition requiring guests to be told about the location of a raptor nest, then approved the permit for three years as amended. [1]
