North Pender trustees approve annual report changes
The committee added wording about a raptor-nest permit violation and the province’s refusal to prosecute before sending its amended report to Trust Council for approval.

The North Pender Local Trust Committee added a statement to its 2023/24 annual report saying a violation of a Raptor’s Nest Development Permit Area and the province’s subsequent refusal to prosecute had raised concerns about enforcement of development permits related to forest protection.[1]
The committee also approved changing the report’s wording from “within the territory of First Nations whose people” to “within the territory of many First Nations whose peoples.” The amended text was approved for Trust Council’s approval and submission to the Minister of Municipal Affairs.[1]

At the meeting, BC Hydro’s project manager described a planned submarine cable between Welbury Bay on Salt Spring Island and Port Washington on North Pender, with construction anticipated in summer 2025. The minutes say the project would include an 11-kilometre cable and upgrades to the existing distribution system.[1]
The minutes also record a discussion of housing options, including accessory dwelling units and opportunities for non-profit housing, and note that a community communication strategy could be developed.[1]
