The North Pender Local Trust Committee directed staff to prepare a draft bylaw updating the Official Community Plan’s raptor-nest map and associated Development Permit Area 7 guidelines, consistent with a professional report submitted by Caurinus Environmental. The committee also directed staff to send information letters to registered owners of parcels containing existing or newly proposed raptor-nest sites.[1]
The directions followed a staff presentation on the Raptor Nest Development Permit Area Review Project. Caurinus Environmental’s Dan Baxter said an additional blue heron nest site might be added to the map, and Island Planner Brad Smith said additional sites could be added.[1]
The committee also asked staff to report back with a project charter, work plan, engagement plan and draft discussion paper for the North Pender Island Housing Access and Affordability Project.[1]
At the meeting, Pender Island Fire Rescue Fire Chief Mike Dine discussed wildfire risk, fire detection and water supplies for suppression. The minutes say he requested help with access to water sources and water-supply regulations for rural properties not served by community hydrants.[1]
The meeting was held April 5, 2024, at the Anglican Parish Hall, and was recorded.[1]
