The North Pender Firestarter · Governance · 2023-06-24 · updated 2026-10-15 · North Pender Island

The North Pender Island Local Trust Committee asked staff to bring options for establishing a North Pender Island Water Advisory Committee to its July 28, 2023 meeting agenda. The request followed a special meeting discussion of groundwater and forestry on June 24, 2023.[1]

The motion, NP-2023-76, carried. A trustee said water independence and water quality were the two main categories to consider when asking the community about water.[1]

During the discussion, a member of the public proposed a citizen working group on groundwater availability, saying local knowledge could complement the groundwater mapping. The minutes also record a suggestion to consider water protection through a development permit area or other tools.[1]
