The North Pender Local Trust Committee made housing a major project and directed staff to prepare a draft project charter and business plan for its July 28 meeting.[1] The motion carried at the committee’s May 26 meeting.[1]
The committee also deferred groundwater education with landowners and made updating raptor-nesting mapping a priority minor project.[1] During discussion, trustees said groundwater would be a factor in the housing project.[1]
At the meeting, staff said the timelines for applying to the Housing Accelerator Fund were tight and that the community needed more preparation for an application.[2] Staff said Salt Spring and Mayne were pursuing the funding, citing work already done on community profiles, housing information and action plans.[2]
Trustee Deb Morrison said the amount of information requested meant North Pender was not in a position to apply, and said the committee would pursue the work needed locally.[2] The minutes record discussion of housing as a major project before the committee passed the motion.[1]
